State policy increases drug prices

Three Dutch researchers found a correlation between the rise in drug prices and government policies in order to control costs. The study was published this month in the scientific journal Plos One. Government has introduced the so-called QALY’s to controle the rising costs, a maximized sum for living in good health for a year. “But drug manufacturers are going to use the QALY’s as a target price,” says Toine Pieters, professor of history of pharmacy at Utrecht University, one of the researchers behind the publication in the Dutch Newspaper NRC Handelsblad.
